I believe our film would be distributed via companies such as Paramount Pictures (who distributed films such as Rosemary’s baby and saving Private Ryan) and Columbia pictures (who distributed films such as close encounters of the third kind). I chose these because they are quite well known production companies, and the majority of people will know who they are.
This leads onto the point that if our film was to be shown to the public, it would be shown in a mainstream formatting rather than an art house film, though it could be seen as a art house film if it were shown in film festivals. The fact that it is in mainstream makes it possible for the film to be digitally distributed on websites such as Amazon, so people will be able to buy or rent the film online.
I believe this film could be distributed via the cinema and/or film festivals (as it is possible it could be made into a shorter film) and later, onto DVD. I also think that it is possible for the film to be distributed digitally, such as online.
There are however both pros and cons to digital distribution. The Pros are that more people will be able to see it and there is a wider audience for the viewing. It allows the public an easy way to access the film as many people use Amazon to buy films or to rent them. However, the cons of digital distribution are that this could lead to illegal selling or distribution of the film, and this could mean a loss of money and increases the amount of illegal films being distributed over the internet.
Compared to professional thrillers, ours lacks a few key components such as still shots and steady camera angles and correct mis-en-scene. However, the overall product was effective in creating suspense and anticipation, and this was a key component of a thriller. It has a interesting and catching plot device, and this is also important as it catches the audience’s attention.
